WCEA Announces Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party

 

The Washington County Economic Alliance is excited to announce a Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party to be held on Fat Tuesday, February 13, in Downtown Greenville.

The parade will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon on Washington Avenue and a Mardi Gras Block Party will follow from 4:30 to 6:30 at 342 Washington Avenue in the WCEA and CB&S parking lot. The Block Party will feature Grammy Award Winner Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers. This event is free and open to the public. 

About the Band: 

Dwayne (Dopsie) Rubin hails from one of the most influential Zydeco families in the world. Although inspired by tradition, Dwayne has developed his own high energy style that defies existing stereotypes and blazes a refreshingly distinct path for 21st century Zydeco music. This singer/songwriter and accordionist from Lafayette, Louisiana has performed all over the world since debuting his band, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, at age 19. The band has won multiple awards including a Grammy in 2022 and Big Easy Award best Zydeco Band. 

About the Parade: 

The parade will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon at the corner of Washington Avenue and Edison Street and continue down Washington Avenue to Walnut Street. Participating parade units may consist of any persons, vehicle, band, dance company, ATV or UTV, as long as it meets the rules of the event (attached to the application). There is a parade entry fee of $75 for WCEA chamber members and $100 for nonmembers. Schools are exempt from this participation donation. Anyone from the community interested in participating in the parade is encouraged to do so. 

About the Block Party: 

A Block Party will be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at 342 Washington Avenue. This event is free and open to the public. Vendors are encouraged to submit an application to sell themed food, drinks and goods. A $50 vendor fee for WCEA Chamber members and a $100 vendor fee for nonmembers who wish to set up a booth and sell items at the Block Party. Vendor rules and regulations are attached to the application, which can be found on our Facebook page or website, wceams.com.

 

All proceeds will benefit the Greenville Christmas Committee initiative. Sponsorships are also available for anyone who wishes to support the effort. Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $5,000 and offer an array of benefits.
