Aug 29, 2022
On Thursday, August 25, 2022, Brad Steffani, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi, announced the expansion of Goodwill Industries into Greenville, MS.
"We are extremely excited about bringing Goodwill Industries of Mississippi to the Greenville area to become an active partner in workforce development, and to provide training, services, and educational programs to people with disabilities and other barriers to assist with employment. We look for-ward to meeting our community leaders, sharing our Mission and building partnerships," said Steffani.
In 2021, more than 123,000 people were placed into jobs in the US with assistance from their local Goodwill. Local Goodwills help people find a job and grow their careers so they can change their lives. Goodwill Industries conducted a survey earlier in the month regarding community needs. Team members from Goodwill's workforce training program will also meet with community businesses and stakeholders to specialize training solutions to meet employer and community demands.
"This is an amazing service being established in Greenville/Washington County," said Will Coppage, WCEA Executive Director. "Goodwill Industries goes beyond a retail establishment. Goodwill puts emphasis on the community. Their workforce programs and particularly, work with the disabled community, sets Goodwill apart. I am proud to call them a partner in Washington County,"
Some of the programs that Goodwill provides are: Vocational Training and Assessment, Retail Training, Career Counseling, Digital/Computer Skills Training, Vocational Rehabilitation, Job Evaluation, Life & Soft Skills Training, Resume and Job Application Assistance, Job Placement Assistance and so much more. Goodwill Industries of Mississippi is here to assist people with disabilities and other barriers to obtain employment.
Currently, Goodwill Industries of Mississippi is redeveloping the previously used Office Depot building on South HWY 1, Greenville, MS. An opening date has yet to be set. MISSION
Goodwill works to enhance people’s dignity and quality of life by strengthening their communities, eliminating their barriers to opportunity, and helping them reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.
HISTORY
Goodwill was founded in Boston by Reverend Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist minister and early social innovator. Helms created the Goodwill philosophy of “not charity, but a chance” when he collected used household goods and clothing in wealthier areas of the city, then trained and hired people who were poor to mend and repair the used goods. The goods were then sold or given to the people who repaired them. 120 years later, Goodwill remains a household name and leading nonprofit provider of educational and workforce-related services.
