MAYOR SIMMONS ANNOUNCES $500,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDS RECEIVED FOR GREENVILLE STATE-OF-THE-ART GREENSPACE

GREENVILLE, Miss. (April 12, 2022): Today, Mayor Errick D. Simmons announces receipt of Five Hundred Thousand ($500,000) in federal funds for Greenville’s state-of-the-art Greenspace to accompany the New Federal Courthouse coming to Greenville.

The City of Greenville leadership requested Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000) for the construction, development, and improvements of a state-of-the-art greenspace to create environmental, economic, aesthetic, social, and psychological benefits for the residents and visitors of the City of Greenville while maximizing and leveraging state and federal investments that promote the local vision of downtown revitalization, hospitality, education, complete streets, and green infrastructure. These federal funds will add to state funds of $500,000 totaling an investment of $1,000,000 in state and federal funds for this greenspace project. Mayor Simmons thanks Senator Derrick T. Simmons for securing the $500,000 in state funding.

“Thanks to Senator Roger Wicker for his leadership and continued support of the City of Greenville in securing these funds, which will serve to maximize the impact of the construction of new federal courthouse, said Mayor Simmons. These funds will be used for landscape architecture, landscape management, and development to enhance the multifunctionality of green infrastructure. Federal funding for this project will not only show the strength of local, state, and federal partnerships but also will bolster the positive externalities of innovation, growth, revitalization, hospitality, economic development, youth development, and entertainment evidenced by state and federal investments.”

“I was glad to work with Mayor Simmons to secure funding for this project,” Wicker said. “The greenspace will help improve downtown and complement the new federal courthouse, a project I have long supported. I look forward to continuing to work with the City of Greenville to make investments that will improve the quality of life for residents, visitors, and workers alike.”
