$7.7 Million Awarded to the City of Greenville

Today, Mayor Errick D. Simmons announces $7.7 Million Dollars awarded to the City of Greenville by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration to make infrastructure improvements needed to reduce flooding as well as make sanitary sewer system improvements in the city. Today Mayor Simmons was joined by Congressman Bennie G. Thompson; Mr. Kevin Preskenis, Chief of Staff, Office of the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce; Tommy Goodwin, Executive Director of South Delta Development and Planning District; Will Coppage, Executive Director of Washington County Economic Alliance; the Greenville City Council; and other officials in support of locally-driven disaster resiliency and Opportunity Zone revitalization efforts.

The funding from this EDA grant is a much needed investment in Greenville. It will spur economic development, community stabilization, and bring much needed jobs to Greenville, Mississippi.

This $7.7 million dollar investment will add to over $28 million dollars in local, state, and federal monies spent on infrastructure during this administration. Infrastructure remains this administration’s top priority, is a quality of life issue, and is vital to economic development, industry retention, recruitment, flood prevention, and disaster resiliency. I especially thank Congressman Bennie G. Thompson as this announcement shows how local and federal partnerships matter in maximizing federal investments in supporting the economic visions of local communities. I also that the Greenville City Council, South Delta Planning and Development District, Washington County Economic Alliance, and all who played a role in making this announcement possible.
