Western Line School District Rated a “B” in Washington County MS

Sep 20, 2019

Avon, MS ( September 17, 2019)--- For the first time in Western Line School District’s History, the district has reached a “B” rating or “High Performing” rating according to the Mississippi Department of Education’s accountability ratings.

Lawrence Hudson joined the Western Line School District July 1, 2018 with student success as his main goal. Hudson took a moment to express his thanks and gratitude after receiving notice of the district’s success. He stated, “I first would like to say thank you to the WLSD board of trustees for giving me the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of this district. My goal has been since day one to prove to my school board and to the community that I can lead the staff and students to higher levels of academic success. It started with the vision of the school board to become an “A” rated district. They have shown tremendous support to my administration over the past year to accomplish this goal.”

Hudson explained how hard the district has worked to achieve this goal and he couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication from his staff. “My success as a Superintendent is dependent upon the support from the school board, the work of the district level staff, and most importantly the principals. The district could not reach such a milestone if we did not have such dynamic principals in each of our schools. Their success as principals are dependent upon the great teachers we have in the district. The teachers’ success is dependent upon the great students we have, and the students’ success is credited to the parental support we receive. As you can see this milestone is a TEAM effort.”

Hudson was asked what’s to come and he stated proudly, “The rating we received this year is a stepping stone to our ultimate goal. We will continue to analyze the data and look at areas that are still in need of improvement. Although all of our schools increased in accountability points last school year, we will continue to strive to have “A” rated schools, and an “A” rated district.”
