Delta Regional Medical Center Teams With Greenville Public School District

The Delta Regional Medical Center (DRMC) leadership and staff have teamed up with the Greenville Public School District this school year to enlighten students with healthcare knowledge through various programs.

The Medical Pipeline initiative was established to enhance the science and healthcare base with interested students who are leaning towards a healthcare future.  Under the guidance of Amy Walker, Chief Nursing Officer, and Iris Stacker, Vice-President of Compliance and Support Services, the program involves various components with the same mission of developing relationships with the students.

For the past month, Greenville High students that are enrolled in a healthcare track have been visiting the hospital for extensive tours and instruction with physicians and DRMC personnel.  Kevin Willis and Sharon Taylor of the Service Excellence department have been instrumental in guiding the students to various clinical departments to get an understanding of the health care realm.  Included in the tours are conversations with various physicians and clinical providers as well as hands-on activity with hospital equipment.

Scott Christensen, Chief Executive Officer, says, “Delta Regional Medical Center has been a community leader for years and considers the investment into our children’s future a top priority.  As the leading employer in Washington County, we continue to research innovative paths to encourage young people to join the healthcare workforce and invest back into working in the Delta.”  Christensen adds, “You will see our experienced and dedicated staff not only caring for the community within the hospital walls but externally at events, schools and other civic opportunities.  I am proud of the work that is done day in and day out by our devoted team.”

The partnership with the Greenville Public School District is just the beginning of the medical outreach initiative that DRMC is pursuing in the coming year. There are more opportunities on the horizon.
