Washington County Economic Alliance Teen Health Fair
Oct 19, 2017
Washington County Economic Alliance’s Healthcare Committee hosted their first Teen Health Fair at Greenville High School Thursday, October 12 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.Throughout the morning Greenville High Assistant Principal, Barbara Cage, along with other teachers assisted over 350 students evenly throughout all the booths to get an overall healthy outlook. Topics addressed were glucose and blood pressure, nutrition, finance learning, fire safety, virtual vertical DUI, abstinence/pregnancy/young mothers along with other free screenings/information.
Healthcare Chairman Stephanie Showers, Administrator for River Heights Healthcare Center stated, “The healthcare committee feels the Teen Health Fair was a huge success! The Greenville High 9th-12th grade students were very open-minded and were excited about the opportunity to get information on their health. They were encouraging each other to get their glucose and blood pressure plus interested in every booth available to them. This is certainly something we need to do again next year, if not in the spring! Also, a big thank you to Greenville High for helping us make this happen, along with all the WCEA/chamber members who were able to come out that morning to educate our youth!”
The Healthcare Committee Meetings are held the majority of the first Wednesday of each month at 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. and is open to all chamber members who are interested in promoting healthcare in Washington County.
