DELTA COMPASS - WCEA AWARDS JUSTICE GRANT TO GREENVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

[Greenville, Mississippi] – August 19, 2024, Delta Compass – Washington County Economic Alliance President & CEO, Justin Archer Burch, is pleased to announce a grant to the Greenville Police Department (GPD) to assist in their capacity to ensure that all evidence is successfully transferred into digital logs. “This grant brings GPD greater capacity in meeting the needs of victims and the justice system by allowing all evidence to be digitally inventoried, stored, and organized by accredited agencies”, said Burch.  “It really brings GPD into the 21st century in evidence cataloging and digital connections with other agencies.”

The Greenville Police Department has been actively working with community trust organizations to increase connections to community and to improve systems that link into the justice system.  “This grant will allow us better coverage of bin items to be stored until a court date, reducing conflicts and time in court cases, and will optimize evidence inventory,” said Major Misty Mew of the Greenville Police Department. “This technology will be instrumental in helping us better analyze, extract, and interpret relevant evidence.”

Delta Compass - WCEA will provide funds to purchase a cordless barcode scanner with USB wireless and Bluetooth capabilities, a new label printer, a barcode scanner stand, and a five-inch label OD from WASP.  “We are excited to partner with the Greenville Police Department to help them upgrade their technology. One of the biggest drivers in economic development is a safe community, and we appreciate all the effort our men and women of the Greenville Police Department continue to make,” stated Parker England, Board Chairman of WCEA. These funds are a leveraging component to the more than $800,000 provided to the Greenville Justice Collaborative in 2022 to benefit safety in the Mississippi Delta.
