PRESS RELEASE

Delta Compass and Washington County Economic Alliance Receive Volunteer Mississippi Grant

[Greenville, Mississippi] – The Washington County Economic Alliance and Delta Compass, in partnership with the Mississippi Delta Nature and Learning Center, announce the award of a $10,000 Volunteer Mississippi Grant to help conduct community cleanup at various sites in Greenville during the week of Earth Day, April 22-26, 2024.

These funds will be used to aggregate multiple volunteer groups from Washington County and provide the necessary supplies and training to remove litter along Alexander St., Washington Ave., Nelson St., Broadway Loop and the Levee, Theobald St. and the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 82. These volunteers and groups will work for 5 days in rotating shifts from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to remove litter and dumping sites along multiple routes, which will restore aesthetics to our community and provide a clean environment.

Mississippi Delta Nature & Learning Center will provide dedicated technical assistance to volunteers on trash removal and disposal. All materials will be provided including dumpsters, safety vests, gloves, buckets, trash bags, and trash pickers. If you would like to participate in this community cleanup project, please contact Angelica Motton at Washington County Economic Alliance at 662-378-3141 or amotton@wceams.com. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in a community-wide effort to clean up our community – one piece at a time.
