Delta Compass Awards $20,000 Grant to Mississippi Delta Nature & Learning Center to Advance Green Energy Workforce and Conservation Education

Greenville, MS — Delta Compass has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Mississippi Delta Nature & Learning Center to support a new workforce development initiative focused on green energy careers and conservation in the Mississippi Delta. This investment will expand hands-on learning experiences, career exploration programs, and technical training opportunities that prepare Delta residents—especially youth and early-career workers—for high-demand jobs in the renewable energy and environmental management sectors.

As the region pivots toward a more sustainable and resilient economic future, this partnership will equip local talent with the knowledge and skills to thrive in solar energy, utility-scale battery storage, environmental monitoring, and land conservation. The grant will fund mobile curriculum development and immersive field experiences across natural areas and energy infrastructure sites.

“This is about preparing our people for the next generation of energy jobs, while honoring the natural landscape that defines the Delta,” said Justin Archer Burch, President & CEO of Delta Compass. “We believe the Mississippi Delta can lead in the green energy economy—and that starts by connecting conservation with workforce. The Mississippi Delta Nature & Learning Center is the perfect partner to bring that vision to life.”

The initiative will also create pathways for students and job seekers to engage with industry partners, technical colleges, and public utilities, ensuring a direct link between environmental education and economic opportunity. Programs will prioritize outreach to underserved communities and those historically excluded from the energy sector.

This grant builds on Delta Compass’ broader mission to design workforce systems that are locally rooted, economically inclusive, and future-focused. By aligning conservation and clean energy, the Mississippi Delta is taking bold steps toward a greener, more prosperous tomorrow.
