MDOT Commissioner Presents Multimodal Grants

GREENVILLE, Mississippi – Mississippi Department of Transportation Central Commissioner, Willie Simmons, visited Greenville, MS on Monday to present multimodal grants awarded to the Port of Greenville and Mid-Delta Airport. Totaling over $750,000, these grants will be used to improve infrastructure at the port and airport. During this visit, Commissioner Simmons expressed a goal to re-establish Greenville and Washington County as a regional transportation hub.

“We have to look at this area, Greenville and Washington County, as the future hub for transportation in the west part of the State of Mississippi,” said Commissioner Simmons. “The airport and the port are very strong projects here in the Mississippi Delta. We are here to be supportive of that.”

Mayor Errick Simmons of Greenville is thankful for the support that his town has received, and for the strong relationship that Greenville and Washington County have with the State of Mississippi. “This announcement is for over $750,000 in the City of Greenville for our airport and our port,” said Mayor Simmons. “Economic development, goods and services in and out of the Delta, in and out of Mississippi, and we couldn’t have done that without the wonderful partnership, dedicated service and leadership of our Commissioner, Willie Simmons.”

Will Coppage, Executive Director of the Washington County Economic Alliance, is excited to see state-wide support for Greenville’s largest economic development projects. "Funding for the Port of Greenville and Mid-Delta Airport reinforce the State's commitment to Greenville and Washington County," said Coppage. "Our strategic vision and planning are in line with this investment, which will lead to jobs and bolster economic growth throughout the region.
