Greenville, MS – The Washington County Economic Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “WCEA”) is pleased to announce that in June 2017, the WCEA became Rural LISC’s newest partner organization. This partnership will help strengthen and coordinate investments relating to workforce development, education, entrepreneurship, and quality of life. “WCEA is excited to have been selected as a partner to join the Rural LISC network. Rural LISC’s support of workforce development blends perfectly with the work that the WCEA is doing to develop the workforce training skills needed to help our existing industries and future industrial development in Washington County”, said Cary Karlson, Executive Director of WCEA.

In 1995, LISC launched Rural LISC to expand its reach beyond urban areas to include rural communities. Today, Rural LISC partners with 77 community development organizations, including four financial intermediaries. Rural LISC’s mission demonstrates their investment in rural America, as they are committed to providing support for our communities, making them good places to live, work, do business and raise children. They believe that nonprofit community organizations play an essential role in achieving this mission. As such, Rural LISC is dedicated to building the capacity of these groups and increasing their production, by generating resources and investing in their work. “Rural LISC is excited to be partnering with WCEA to further their ongoing efforts to improve workforce development, education, entrepreneurship, and quality of life in Washington County,” said Suzanne Anarde, Vice
President of Rural LISC. “It is WCEA’s commitment to community and shared emphasis on making Rural America a great place to live, work, do business and raise a family that makes this partnership a natural fit. We look forward to the great work we can spur together in WCEA’s service area.”

Criteria to become a Rural LISC partner is highly competitive. Rural LISC has worked in more than 2,000 counties across 44 states. WCEA is one of three partners in Washington County with the others being Greater Greenville Housing and Revitalization Association, Inc. and Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE).
